Chapter Twenty Nine

Misty

Misty was frustrated. It was the day after the detectives came, and she was in a lot of pain. She was taking the pain pills, but her arm was extremely tender. Any movement, set off a shot of fire through it. She was grateful for the sling she was wearing.

Her sight hadn’t changed any more either. She was still seeing a bit better, and she could make out colours, but the later it got in the day, the worse it became. Doc said, that by the end of the day, her eyes were getting tired, and that was to be expected. He was very hopeful that given time, it would get better and better.

Brody was a lifesaver. He took her for walks; he took her to the common room to eat, and he entertained her with stories of the bikers. She also got introduced to Cassie, and they hit it off. Cassie helped her get cleaned up and even helped her wash her hair. It made Misty feel one hundred percent better.

Noah had called that morning too, and Misty had broke down sobbing. Luckily, Trike had been with her. She explained to Noah what had happened, and Noah was furious. He wanted to be there. He promised though, that as soon as he got home, he would deal with Carly. The paperwork was being pushed through, and he hoped it wouldn’t be too much longer.

After that draining phone call, Cassie and Ali showed up with baby Catherine, and declared it to be a girl’s day. They listened to music, they laughed, and they gave Misty a makeover. They also went through her clothes, and picked out all her yoga pants and tees, so she would be comfortable while she healed. After pizza and a tub of ice cream, the girls left, but they promised to be back soon. It thrilled Misty, she’d never had friends like them before.

Then, her evening was broken up by Carly coming to the front gate and screaming. Trike wanted to deal with it, but Misty wanted to stand up for herself. When they approached the gate, surrounded by Dragon, Steele, Dagger, Navaho, Preacher and Shadow, it gave Misty the courage she needed.

Carly didn’t seem surprised at all by her injuries and didn’t even ask about them. She yelled and accusing them of stealing her stuff. Misty tried to explain that when she was feeling better, she’d go through everything, and return what was hers. Carly refused to listen to reason, yelling she had been kicked out of her own apartment too, and had nowhere to stay.

Misty calmly mentioned that maybe she could stay with the man she was with the other night. That probably wasn’t the smartest thing to say, because Carly ran at the gates, and pounded on them. The bikers only looked on in amusement. But then they full out laughed, when she tried to climb the gate, in her high-heeled shoes and tiny dress.

That was when a car pulled up, and the detectives got out.
